Drama.

I've always said a little drama never hurt anyone. Some of us deal with drama better than others. Some of us don't deal with the drama at all and recluse themselves into the no-drama-here zone.

A little bit of drama keeps things interesting.

But some drama I'd rather not see happen.

Like the one last night. The one where my 16 year-old nephew tried to kill himself by jumping out of a window.

Just when I thought nothing could break my heart harder than the ending of 6FU.

My sister just came in and said to me, "Thank God he wasn't smarter to find a taller building to jump out of."

That is so true.

I swear.

If we weren't laughing right now we'd be crying.

Thank God for laughter.

And thank God he's not that smart.

OMG I'm so sorry to hear about this. I hope he's doing better and getting the help he needs. And I know you are the kind of person to put yourself out and try and make things right. Don't let his problem become yours. It could tear you apart. {{{Hugs}}}

I'm glad he's ok.

I'm glad he's ok.

Oh, Charm! I'm so sorry.

That is really scary, but it is so lucky he is okay. He could have been paralyzed or worse, and maybe as you say, this will be a wake up call so he can get the help he needs.

aw charm...

Everyone, thank you so much for your thoughts and concern. It really means a lot to me. The past few days have been pretty rocky and we've been all trying to give my nephew as much support as we can. The good news is that it's a fractured spine. He did end up putting a 12 inch gash in his scalp as well that required 8 staples to close. He's been on suicide watch since he was brought in and had his first psyche test today when they released him to Children's Hospital. Again, thank you everyone for your thoughts and well wishes. It's hard but I have faith he'll get through this.

Holy Cow

As far as why, he carries a lot of guilt for things he shouldn't carry on himself. He feels no one trusts him, his is not loved and also that he is worthless. A lot of it stems from his family life in general. It hasn't been easy for him.

What? IS he getting

What? IS he getting counselling? Being 16 was tough, hopefully he will pull out of the rut.

I'm glad your nephew wasn't

I'm glad your nephew wasn't successful, especially when at that age, it is usually a call for help. Unfortunately, like the other B, my sister did something similar as a teen. You almost wish there's a way to get through to them that there's so much more to life, especially after that age when people are "freer" to make their own path that might make them happier.

Yup I hear ya Becky. I think

Yup I hear ya Becky. I think it's a hard age def. Part of his problem is that he lives too much in the present. He doesn't plan for the future I think because it's hard for him to see a future for himself. I don't know if that makes sense, but really, it comes down to not being able to see a light at the end of the tunnel. That all bad things have an ending. Hopefully this whole incident will help him change all that.

Holy crap!

Holy crap! A spinal fracture? Glad he can still walk. Nothing like ending up in a wheelchair to make you wish you had found another way to cry for help. :(

so sorry

I'm glad your nephew's okay. Do you think it was more of a cry for help kind of thing than a 100% serious attempt? My sister did that once. She OD'd on pills and had to go to the hospital, but didn't do nearly enough of anything serious to be in real trouble.

Thanks B for your comments.

Thanks B for your comments. I hope at this point it was just a cry for help. However he did do it with 4 other people in the house. My mom had called 911 when he started talking about killing himself. My dad, brother and his girlfriend were trying to talk to him but he locked himself in his room and then jumped out the window. The good news is he wasn't successful. But he did fracture his spine. He's had a tough past few years and my brother hasn't been able to get him the help he needs. Hopefully this will be a wake up call for my brother and my nephew. We'll see.
