Swoony Moony

Posted On: July 21, 2005 - 12:34am by groovebunny

Okay.

The moon?

Is so completely beautiful tonight I can barely stand it! It's huge and high in the sky, bright and surrounded by clouds. I want to hold it! Maybe put it in my night stand, so I can open the drawer and watch the moon rise. Then capture the moon and do it all over again. Crazy I know, but this is what a beautiful moon does to me...makes me a bit goofier than normal.

Question for the Groovy One

Your Bunniness, you know all, so perhaps you can tell me. Why does the moon appear to be larger immediately after it rises? Enquiring minds want to know.

Oooh good question! I don't

Oooh good question! I don't know if you've noticed this, but the same thing happens to the sun once it's closer to the horizon. I wish I knew the answer. All the theories I've read on it before suggests that our retina views things differently when looking at it more horizontally than vertically (as the moon rises). I like that theory because when I try to take a picture of a huge moon, looking at it through a camera lense and then ofcourse taking the picture as well, the moon is not any larger at the horizon than it is as it moves higher into the sky. Or maybe the trick on the eyes is that as the moon rises into an open sky and there is nothing close to it to compare for scale, for instance trees or buildings, the moon appears smaller? Great question, after thinking about it I'm sure I'll have moon on the brain again all night! :)

It really was amazing!!

I couldn't agree more. I got out of school at 10pm last night and my eyes were glued to it the whole ride home.

Kanga! You are correct! It's

Kanga! You are correct! It's still totally beautiful tonight. I was out and about earlier and the moon looked like a huge cheese ball.

Curator, TGIF to you too! :)

Rori, I've heard a full moon can work something awful on some people's moods. Me? It makes me amorous. lol

MrsMogul, the moon is def fuller tonight. Lastnight, it was gorgeous but higher in the sky and it looked silverish. Tonight we have the whole cheese thing going on. lol

Ana, that's the stuff dreams are made of. :)

Amy, I wouldn't say I love the heat, but I do like it a lot better than freezing. lol What I do like about the heat though, being able to jump into a cold pool of water to escape the heat. :)

The moon tonight....

Is just phenomenal too! I walked out of class at ten o'clock and it was just above the trees, and still orange, full and beautiful.

I Love Those Moments
