If God Made You, He's in Love With Me...

Posted On: April 10, 2005 - 9:37pm by groovebunny

I'm back. Happily back but not happily at the same time. I left a piece of my heart in New York City. And being lucky enough to get to spend the past few days there, I now know that had I not had a little guy and determination that my little guy have a close and loving relationship with his daddy, New York City could have been a place I could have escaped after my divorce. Before leaving for my trip, friends and co-workers told me to be careful because NYC was a dangerous and scary place. And I believed them only because I had nothing to balance their opinions with the exception of the stereo-types I've seen on t.v. The west coast is the best coast. I admit it. I've said that in my lifetime. But that's when I had no idea. It's all a matter of perspective and what you know and allow your heart and soul to experience. And now I know I could so totally roll with NYC.

This is it for now. Between the time change from last weekend and the time zone difference, I'm a freaking mess beyond messes. lol But I just wanted to be sure to jump on for a quick update and especially to thank all of you who have left comments and sent emails during my away-ness. You all are amazing and thank you so very much. :) I'll be sure to visit you all in the next few days to get caught up on what I've missed!

Much love...

:) Thanks everyone for the welcome back.:)

Ben, more pictures shall be coming. :)

Dawn, yup it's good to have a native show you around, but if you stay in the city, it's actually pretty easy to get around. Between most things being in walking distance, the subway and taxi's...

Suze, I'd live there in a heartbeat too! Who knows. Maybe one day the opportunity may present itself. :)

Ana, ya know I felt very safe walking the streets by myself. There were cops almost everywhere I looked, and lots of people. The only thing I wouldn't do is walk in secluded areas. Just not a good idea any place in the US. ;) But if you ever get a chance, you must go!

Thanks for the welcome back Kangamini. :) And hugs back at ya!

Daniel, lol thanks!

Julie thanks! I shall be writing more about my time there during the week. :)

Robin, I haven't lived many places during my life. I was born in San Francisco, learned to talk in Virginia then came out to San Diego with my family. But I have to agree with you, NYC all the way!

Sharron, I totally agree with you. There's so much going on in NYC one would have to be dead to say they were bored. lol

Emperor, same here. I've mainly lived in the burbs all my life. But I could see myself changing things up a bit. :)

Thanks Hannie lovie! Yup Peart kept me company on IM when I wasn't out to remind me where home was. lol

Tiara. I had a blast! :) And yup pictures will be coming.

Thanks for commenting NativeNewYawker. :)

Panthergirl, thanks for turning me on to LastGirlonEarth's site. It's fabulous! And definitely yes I would love to do a NYC blogger event the next time I head out there. :)

Nat I agree. Every native I ran across was friendly and warm. And the tourists I met in my hotel were actually very nice as well. I got lucky on my trip! How awesome it would be to live there. And since you both agree that would be a hard deal to pass up, I hope something does present itself! :)

aww now!

You go girl!
Glad to hear you are having fun!
I regret now not taking the time to drive to NY when we lived in D.C. We lived there for 3 years and NEVER did we take the time go drive there.
Honestly, I was always too scared to go. Just cause of all the stories I've heard.... Silly I know...

Yay!

I fell in love with NYC the second I set foot in Times Square. Born in Ohio, raised in Indiana, settled in Florida...and if I can't retire in Italy, it's NYC all the way.

I love NYC, no other city eve

I'm a hopelessly suburban guy, but there's a part of me who would love to live in a "deluxe apartment in the sky," not worrying about cars or mowing lawns or things like that....

Hi! Long time reader first time commentor. I'm glad you loved my city! I can't wait to read about the places you got to visit while here!

Welcome to the Dark Side!

panthergirl (not verified)   |   April 11, 2005 - 8:17am

I'm so glad you loved NYC... of course, I'm biased, but there is just no place like it. All of the "rap" is so wrong. Just look at those little videos that Last Girl on Earth puts on her blog! Next time you come, let's set up a NYC blogger event!

I *heart* NYC

Nat (not verified)   |   April 11, 2005 - 4:16am

You know, I'd heard the same thing about NYC prior to first solo trip there more than a few years ago. I found a people that were warm, welcoming, and helpful -- you just have to get beyond the dialect is all. The rudest meanest people there were the tourist, including a French family who looked rather sheepish when I told them off -- in French.

Jeff and I have always said that if two high paying jobs were to pop up in NYC we'd be hard pressed to turn them down. Then again I'm an east coast kind of girl. :)
